Tine-In Tuesday: The 2nd Law–Isolated System

Welcome back to another installment of Tune-In Tuesday!

This week, we’re visited the world of my current work-in-progress, RETRIBUTION, with a song from Muse called “Isolated System”.

For those of us who’ve seen the movie World War Z, this song is going to sound eerily familiar. This song is not only the opening music for the zombie-flick, but it played throughout the film, mostly during transitional scenes.

Enjoy

Tune-In Tuesday: Hail to the King

Welcome to a new installment of Tune-In Tuesday!

This week’s song is the title track to the new album from Avenged Sevenfold (A7X)–“Hail to the King”. When I first heard this tune, I automatically thought about J.R. Ward’s BDB series. I mean, come on, the next book due out in this series is, “The King”.

BUT…

I then thought about my current WIP–you know, the one I’m sloooowly revising and editing but will have completely polished and ready for submission by December 1st? Yes, RETRIBUTION. When that story came to mind, I listened to this tune again … and again … and again, and this song gave me such fantastic inspiration that when I arrived home, I locked myself in my writing cave and began writing his scene. A scene where we first get to see him behind the mask he shows everyone else. A scene where my skin crawled and I had to take a break because I couldn’t keep myself inside his head for too long.

For me, that’s not only a fantastic antagonist to write, but “Hail to the King” is a fantastic song for writing inspiration. 🙂

Enjoy!

Tune-In Tuesday: I’m Not Alright

I’ve been a Shinedown kick lately, so today’s song comes to us from … you guessed it, Shinedown. 😀

This song is from their latest album, Amaryllis — which I highly recommend for immediate purchase and download.

Song of the Week: In For the Kill (Skream Remix) by La Roux

I’m baaaaaack!!!

Can’t believe it’s already been a month, but it was very much needed in order to get some things taken care of in both my personal and writing lives.

As with every Monday, today showcases a Song of the Week. This particular song was actually hand-selected by my husband. He put it on my mp3 player then stated he felt like I’d be inspired by it. And he was right. I’ve found quite a bit of inspiration by listening to In For the Kill over the last several weeks. So here’s to hoping you do too.

In For the Kill Lyrics
We can fight our desires
But when we start making fires
We get ever so hot
Whether we like it or not
They say we can love who we trust
But what is love without lust?
Two hearts with accurate devotions
And what are feelings without emotions?

I’m going in for the kill
I’m doing it for a thrill
Oh I’m hoping you’ll understand
And not let go of my hand(x2)

I hang my hopes out on the line
Will they be ready for you in time
If you leave them out too long
They’ll be withered by the sun
Full stops and exclamation marks
My words stumble before I start
How far can you send emotions?
Can this bridge cross the ocean?

I’m going in for the kill
I’m doing it for a thrill
Oh I’m hoping you’ll understand
And not let go of my hand(x2)

Let’s go to war
To make peace
Let’s be cold
To create heat
I hope in darkness
We can see
And you’re not blinded by the light from me

I’m going in for the kill
‘m doing it for a thrill
Oh I’m hoping you’ll understand
And not let go of my hand

Happy Writing!

Song of the Week: Firefly by Over the Rhine

Happy Monday, everyone!

Brace yourselves – this week’s song can be a rather powerful one if you open your heart and let it in.

I first discovered Over the Rhine when perusing through a playlist created by Deb Harkness for her book, A Discovery of Witches. From the moment I heard this song I was hooked!!

Hope you enjoy!

Firefly Lyrics

Written by: Bergquist/Detweiler
Album: Drunkard’s Prayer

My memory will not fail me now

Mmm firefly in the night sky
Only lights on the rise
And I need you so firefly

One satellite with a lazy eye
Caught me by surprise
With an ache in my belly
And a taste in my mouth for fire

My memory will not fail me now

Mmm firefly in the night sky
Only lights on the rise
After the killing frost
Where do you go
Firefly

My memory will not fail me now
And the rest is history

Happy Writing!!!

Across the Universe Lyrics
Written by: John Lennon & Paul McCartney
Words are flowing out like
Endless rain into a paper cup
They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe

Pools of sorrow waves of joy
Are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me

Jai Guru Deva, om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world

Images of broken light which
Dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on across the universe

Thoughts meander like a
Restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe

Jai Guru Deva, om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter, shades of life
Are ringing through my opened ears
Inciting and inviting me

Limitless undying love, which
Shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

Jai Guru Deva, om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Jai Guru Deva
Jai Guru Deva
Jai Guru Deva
Jai Guru Deva

Song of the Week: My Immortal by Evanescence

Happy Monday, everybody!

I first heard this song while watching the movie Dare Devil. The music and lyrics resonated with me and to this day, I still turn to this song to write scenes with heavy emotional power, scenes where a character sits back and reflects on the feelings they have for a loved one they’ve lost, the scenes that pull on a reader’s heart strings and never let go.

My hope is that this song may resonate with you as well and that you may turn to it as well when the need to write a similar scene presents itself.

My Immortal (Lyrics)
Songwriters: Hodges, David; Lee, Amy; Moody, Ben

I’m so tired of being here, suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave, I wish that you would just leave
Your presence still lingers here and it won’t leave me alone

These wounds won’t seem to heal, this pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now, I’m bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me

These wounds won’t seem to heal, this pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

I’ve tried so hard to tell myself that you’re gone
But though you’re still with me, I’ve been alone all along

When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me, me, me

Happy Reading and Writing!!!

Song of the Week: Diary of Jane by Breaking Benjamin

Happy Monday, everyone!!

As I was listening to Pandora yesterday and pounding out the words (thank goodness the Muse was in good spirits!), this particular song came on and seemed to influence the scene I was working on in a way I didn’t even expect. Don’t you just love it when that happens?

So of course I just to share it all of you!

Hope you enjoy! :0)

The Diary Of Jane lyrics
Songwriters: Fincke, Aaron; Szeliga, Chad; James, Mark; Burnley, Ben

If I had to I would put myself right beside you
So let me ask, would you like that? Would you like that?
And I don’t mind if you say this love is the last time
So now I’ll ask, do you like that? Do you like that? No!

Something’s getting in the way
Something’s just about to break
I will try to find my place
In the diary of Jane
So tell me how it should be!

Try to find out what makes you tick as I lie down
Sore and sick, do you like that? Do you like that?
There’s a fine line between love and hate and I don’t mind
Just let me say that I like that, I like that

Something’s getting in the way
Something’s just about to break
I will try to find my place
In the diary of Jane

As I burn another page
As I look the other way
I still try to find my place
In the diary of Jane
So tell me how it should be!

Desperate, I will crawl, waiting for so long
No love, there is no love
Die for anyone, what have I become?

Something’s getting in the way
Something’s just about to break
I will try to find my place
In the diary of Jane

As I burn another page
As I look the other way
I still try to find my place
In the diary of Jane

Happy Reading and Writing, everyone!!!

Song of the Week: Serenity by Godsmack

I’ve been under the weather all weekend, so this week I really wanted a song that would instill a bit of calm into what I’m sure will be a chaotic week.

After missing a day and a half of work last week, and considering that I will be out of the office traveling for 3 days this week, I’ve really got to find some serenity in order to keep myself from pulling my hair out by Wednesday.

I do hope you enjoy this week’s choice!
